A child who is constipated should make some changes in their diet.  Some foods tend to make constipation worse while other foods tend to alleviate constipation.  

Foods to avoid - (Constipating foods)

Rice Cereals
Lentils or Baked Beans
Peanut Butter
White Bread

Foods to alleviate constipation - (Foods that are good to eat)

Juices - especially prune
Whole Wheat Bread - (Not White)
Graham Crackers
Bran Cereals – All Bran, Bran Flakes, Raisin Bran
Wheat Cereals, Whole Flours
Cookies with Dried Fruit – “Fig Bars” “Fig Newtons”
Fresh Fruit – Peaches, Pears, Plums, Prunes, Apricots, Oranges
Dried Fruit – Raisins & Prunes
Fresh Vegetables – Cooked Vegetables (do not overcook)
Salads – especially with lettuce   

Please remember to have your child drink liquids with every meal and one or two glasses of water in the morning, afternoon, and before bed time.
