Information for New Patients


We welcome you as a patient to Yogman Pediatrics and appreciate the opportunity to provide you with the finest pediatric care for your family.  At Yogman Pediatrics we will strive to ensure that every family receives:  comprehensive, fully-coordinated medical, developmental, behavioral and mental health care that is individually-tailored to your family’s needs and the ages and stages of your children.  This includes referrals and coordination with schools, community agencies, social service organizations, financial and insurance resources and medical specialists.  From the early newborn months through the school age and teen years and the later transition to adulthood, Yogman Pediatrics will partner with you in creating a Medical Home for you and your child.

Newborn: In the early weeks after your baby is born, many parents feel tired and stressed.  Difficulties with nursing for mothers and post partum depression for both mothers and fathers is extremely common and we are available to provide help and support to you and your baby during this time.

After the first 6 weeks, your baby will become more alert, organized and social.  By 3 months of age your baby will be much more socially responsive, smiley and cooey. 


School Age Years: Yogman Pediatrics will help consult on your child’s readiness for kindergarten as well as any difficulties he or she may have both educationally and socially.  Our role will be to help you not only when your child is ill, but also to help you understand your child’s individual personality in order to optimize their strengths.


Teen Years: As your child grows up they should become increasingly independent and will begin to need some private time with their physician to develop trust in discussing confidential issues.  This will encourage your teens to be more independent and responsible for their health care as they transition into adulthood. However, this confidentiality will be broken if your teen is doing anything to hurt themselves or others.


Transition to Adult Care: As long as your child comes annually for check ups we are happy to care for them until they graduate from college or move out of the area.  When they are ready to move into an adult practice we will help facilitate their transition.


Antibiotics – Most illnesses in children are viral in nature and only require comfort care.  We try to avoid antibiotics if possible saving these for true bacterial infections so that they will work when we need them. We also aim to avoid needless allergic reactions and side effects.  Our job is to help you understand the distinction between viral and bacterial illnesses.

Immunizations – In contrast to our efforts to avoid the overuse of antibiotics, we strongly recommend prevention of illness with vaccines.  We are happy to talk in detail about the scientific facts regarding the benefits and side effects of immunizations.  However, we generally recommend the adherence to the standard immunization schedule because we think it is in the best interest of children.


Office Hours:  (by appointment) Mon. - Fri. 9:00a.m. - 12:00p.m. & 2:00p.m. - 5:00p.m.

Baby’s First Appointment: Make your baby’s first Physical Appointment as soon as you get home from the hospital.  The baby should be seen no later than two weeks after discharge.  Please call the office.

Scheduling Appointments: Please call the office during the hours of 9:30a.m. and 4:30p.m. to schedule routine appointments.  If your child is ill and needs to be seen, please call as early in the day as possible, preferably at call time, to schedule a time. All patients must be seen by their doctor at least one time a year, for their wellness visit, so that, as your child's medical home, we can provide quality preventive health care.

Office Visits: We greatly appreciate your arriving on time since one patient coming late may cause everyone after them to be kept waiting.  If you are unavoidably late, please call to let us know since we may have to rearrange our schedule, if we can, or reschedule your appointment.

We ask that you give us at least 24 hours notice when you need to cancel and appointment.  A fee will be charged for a missed appointment.  If you have any questions, please feel free to bring a list along with you. It is also helpful to bring immunizations records to each check-up. 

If you wish to raise certain questions before the office visit, these questions could be discussed during the call time on the day of the visit.


Call Time:  During call time, we are available to answer any routine non-emergent questions or concerns about illness that you may have.  We encourage you to call us not only to help with physical problems but also with behavioral, social or school concerns. Please try to restrict your routine calls to this time so that we can try to avoid phone interruptions while seeing patients during the day.  However, if your child is ill and you think there is a chance that he or she may need to be examined that day, you can call during call hour. If your child becomes ill after call hour, just call the office. If you hear a busy signal or a fax tone this means this line is busy, so please redial.  We would also like you to know that you can always call the office during regular working hours or send a message through the patient portal requesting that the doctor call you at their next call time.

Dr Yogman - 617-864-7071 is available for routine calls from 7:00 a.m. -7 :45 a.m., Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings. If you can not get through by 7:15 a.m. please hold on and wait for the service to answer.  It is possible that Dr. Yogman could be unexpectedly out and therefore is not having a call time, but there is always a doctor covering for him.

Dr. Paquette - 617-864-7071 is available from 8:00 a.m. – 8:45 a.m. Monday, Wednesdays and alternate Fridays.

Dr. Need - 617-864-1407 is available  from 8:00 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays.

Dr. Wylie - 617-864-1407 is available from 8:00 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, Wednesdays and alternate Fridays.

Weekends: Please call either office number if your child has an illness or an emergency over the weekend that cannot wait until Monday morning. The doctors cover for each other every other weekend. Please try to call by 9:30a.m. so that we may coordinate the scheduling of any patients who need to be seen.  Remember to bring your insurance card and any co-payments with you.

Emergent Calls/Emergencies: If you have an emergency, always call the office number, day or night.  If there is no reply or if your call is not returned, please try again, the message may not have gotten through. Please do not go to a hospital emergency room unless you think it is a life-threatening emergency and always call us first, if possible.  Please limit these calls to problems with emergencies.  (Routine feeding and illness questions can usually be handled during morning call time).

Poison: If you are concerned about your child swallowing a harmful substance, you can call Boston Poison Center, 617-232-2120.


Hospital Affiliation: Dr. Yogman has admitting privileges at Children’s Hospital, Mass General and Tufts New England Center and can see your newborn in the hospital if you deliver at Brigham and Women’s, Beth Israel, Mt . Auburn, Cambridge, New England Floating or Mass General Hospitals.  


Dr. Need, Dr. Roitfarb and Dr. O'Connor have admitting privileges at Children’s Hospital and can see your new born in the hospital if your deliver at Brigham and Women’s Beth Israel, Mt. Auburn and Cambridge Hospitals.


Changes of Address/Insurance: Please inform us promptly if your address or insurance coverage changes.


Financial Policy:  We make every effort to provide the highest quality individualized children’s medical care and to maintain the cost of that care within reasonable limits.  A significant portion of this cost is billing; therefore we request that you pay co-pays and any balances due after insurance processing at your visit.  Co-pays are always due at the time of service so please have your insurance card with you at your appointment.  Please be aware that some insurance plans limit the number and type of yearly visits and that any additional visits will be billed to you.  Please realize that the bill is your responsibility.  If you have questions regarding your insurance, our secretaries can try assisting you, but since there are so many different insurance plans it would be to your benefit to contact your insurance directly. We welcome the opportunity to discuss any aspects of our financial policy or any other payment arrangements you wish to make with us in advance.


Referral Requests: All referrals must be approved by the PCP (primary care doctor.) Once you 

obtain the approval, please call our dedicated referral line at 617-864-0671 and follow the instructions.


School/Camp Health Forms: Please save the clean school form that you will be given after each annual exam.  It is good for 1 year.  Please call 617-864-5352 to request an additional form.  You can send us a self-addressed stamped envelope or pick it up in person, but it may take up to 7 days.
